The embroidery on this striking royal blue rug was carefully stitched on after the weaving was finished. This technique is in contrast to most other styles in which the decorations are woven directly into the rug.

This is a flatweave handwoven rug featuring motifs unique to the Jewish Berbers in Morocco. Traditionally these rugs were not used as a decorative element but as capes, blankets and bedcovers in the cold mountains in winter.
